Living in a community of 200 students at Duchesne College, plus the other 2000+ College students at UQ, provides numerous social opportunities. Each College hosts a number of social events throughout the year which provide College residents with an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
The Social Convenor of the Duchesne College Student Club takes great care to plan events which are fun and take into account the interests of all our students. Duchesne College hosts a number of key social events during the year, including:
- Duch Bowls: Our most anticipated event
of the year kicks off to celebrate our first week back at university
with a relaxing day on the greens playing lawn bowls with volunteers
from the St Lucia Bowls Club who pass on the skills of lawn bowling. It
is the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends after the long three
month break. A very popular on the UQ Colleges social calendar, it is
not to be missed.
- Duchesne Ball: Find a date for everyone’s
favourite event of the year! Held at a secret
location each year, there's champagne, canapés and a live band.
- Duch @ Home: Hosted in second semester,
Duch @ Home is our opportunity to invite friends from other colleges
over for a party. The theme is a surprise but you can guarantee
you'll have to dress up in a crazy costume!
- Ladies High Tea: Duchesne's charity event raising funds for women less fortunate than ourselves is hosted annually in the Duchesne Quad. It is our only 'all girls' event. We invite our friends from other colleges and ask them to come dressed as a granny, just for fun! Champagne is provided, there’s a live band, we have a fashion show and all guests are encouraged to bring a donation.
Whilst Duchesne does not select our students primarily on the basis of their academic achievements at school, we are proud of the high academic standards achieved at University. The College average GPA is approximately 5.3, well in excess of the University average.
Service and Mission
To live the Goals of Sacred Heart Education, Mission and Service play a large part in College Life and all students are expected to participate in this area.
Residence in College offers many opportunities for the development of leadership skills. Many of our students have held significant leadership roles at school and all are encouraged to play a full and active part in the College community.
