UQ/Duchesne Young Achievers Program (YAP) Bursary

Duchesne College, in partnership with UQ, offers an accommodation grant for students who are part of the Young Achievers Program.

Students wishing to be considered for a UQYAP Award should apply directly to Duchesne College using the standard application procedure. It is the student’s responsibility to notify Duchesne College (as part of their application and interview) that they are a UQ Young Achiever. In turn, students are also required to notify UQ’s Office of Prospective Students & Student Equity (OPSSE) by email, (youngachievers@uq.edu.au) that they have applied to Duchesne College.

Eligibility

Applications may be made by any student who meets the criteria outlined below and who has made an application for a place at Duchesne College. Holders of other awards or scholarships are eligible to apply for this Scholarship. The eligibility factors are:

a) Completed Year 12 in 2019 and are intending to enrol in a bachelor’s degree program at UQ in 2020 or those who have taken an approved gap year in 2019 and/or 2018 (including those who have completed the Tertiary Preparation Program through the UQ College); and
b) Due to their geographical location or other challenging circumstances, need to relocate from their permanent home address in order to attend UQ, and
c) Have applied for a place at Duchesne College 2020.

Selection Criteria
The Award will be made on the basis of:
(a) being a member of the UQ Young Achiever Program
(b) commitment to the degree/discipline to be undertaken;
(c) demonstrated commitment to the life and service of Duchesne College;
(d) demonstrated leadership and personal qualities;
(e) demonstrated financial need.

The Award shall be tenable for three years, on the understanding that the student must achieve a minimum GPA of 4 every semester and is a full time resident of Duchesne College. The award is to the value of a $6,000 reduction in residential fees per year at Duchesne College, allocated equally over two semesters.
