Isabella Smith - The O'Dwyer Family Scholarship

My name is Bella and I’m from the small town of Longreach, located right in the centre of Queensland. It’s roughly 1,200 km from Brisbane, so getting home takes a while. I’m in my first year at Duchesne studying Arts, and I am very grateful this year to have been awarded the “O’Dwyer Family Scholarship”. This Scholarship has made my transition from the outback to the city just that much easier. Staying at Duchesne means I don’t have to worry about aspects of living that I would have if I lived off campus, and this makes it easier to attend Uni and familiarise myself with the city whilst still living with people who feel like family. I enjoy eating meals with my friends every day, and living so close to them that catching up just happens: there’s no need to plan whenever we want to socialise. I really enjoyed the paint party in O-Week. It was fun and carefree and being a dry event didn’t make it any less fun!

Being at Duchesne is a great experience, and I really enjoy being here. Between all the girls there’s a great bond and the staff and always lovely and friendly.
