Gabriella Blokland – Young Achievers Scholarship

Gabriella Blokland was attending St George State High School in 2011 when she was recommended by her Principal for the Young Achievers Program, offered by the University of Queensland. This program offers outstanding support to students from regional areas of Queensland where they are the first in family to attend university. Participating in residential camps at Grace College in Year 11 and Cromwell in Year 12 and benefiting from the experience of her mentors, she was very well acquainted with the workings of the University when she commenced her studies in Primary Education. Gabriella said, “I am very glad I chose Duchesne as everyone has been so welcoming”. She added that she has made great friends in her first year and that the pastoral and academic support offered by College has helped her to make a successful transition from school. Gabriella has received a Young Achievers Program Scholarship which is provided by Duchesne and matched by The University of Queensland.
